 "An outstanding school"  OFSTED 2010

Welcome Back

Welcome back!  I am sure many of you are relieved the holidays are over and the children are returning to school. Unfortunately the weather here wasn’t so good but I hope you enjoyed yourselves and are fully recharged for the new year ahead.  I would also like to extend a special welcome to all our new families, as we look forward to another busy and successful year. The last school year ended with many sporting successes and excellent Year 6 SATs results due to the hard work of the pupils and staff – a big ‘THANK YOU’ to you!  We would like to wish all our ex-Year 6 pupils every success as they take up their new classes in high school.

Medical Updates

If your child has a medical condition which we need to be aware of, or if there are any changes to your child’s existing condition or requirements, please ensure we have the correct information.

Planners
There has been a delay, by the printers, on receiving the planners this year,  They are expected to arrive some time next week.  Please send notes in where necessary until planners are received. Thank you.
Punctuality

I would like to remind parents that children need to be on the school site at 8.50am ie not too late for going in at 8.55am or too early when there is no yard supervision.

Sporting Success

Congratulations to our golf team who, like our dancers, represented Wigan in the Greater Manchester Mini Games and like the dancers they also finished third.

VLN

We are in the process of introducing a new learning platform in school. Our school's portal (VLN) will eventually give you a personalised view of information and resources relevant to you and your child/ children, therefore helping to improve communication to and from the school.

We anticipate that it will be another two and a half years before it is fully functional. At the beginning it was being trialed by our two Year Five classes. We are now introducing it to Year Two, Year Three and Year Four.

OUTSTANDING!

"Nicol Mere School is an outstanding school and one that is improving under the exceptionally good and inspirational leadership of the headteacher."

"The school’s motto – ‘Learning is a passport to life – enjoy’ – is seen in all that it does and helps pupils to gain an impressive understanding of their futures in the world of work. Overall, pupils make consistently good progress. By the end of Year 6 they achieve extremely well in their learning because the school has very high expectations of them. Staff strive to eradicate any differences in the achievement of groups of pupils. For example, the school has been highly successful in helping pupils with previously challenging behaviour to enjoy learning and make good progress again and those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities make exceptional progress."

This inspection places us in the top 6% of primary schools in the country! We are all extremely proud of our school's achievements!

Equality and Community Cohesion

The new 2010-13 plan is now available and will be updated throughout the year.  We have already received some stakeholder input, but if you would like to have your say then please let us know.

Holidays in term time

As explained last term, no holidays will be authorised during term time this year. The children already get over 14 weeks holiday and missing school does impact on their learning.

Car Park

In the interests of everyone’s safety, please do not drive onto or park on the staff car park during our busiest times.  Also, to avoid serious accidents, please do not walk through the car park - use the footpaths provided.  Thank you.
