From September 2014, all pupils in reception, year 1 and year 2 will be eligible for free school meals.
Parents may choose for their child to receive a cooked school meal daily. We are a healthy eating school and our Kitchen Staff provide exceptionally healthy school dinners. All food is freshly prepared, with up to eight choices each day, providing a wide variety of meals. Fruit and salad are provided on each dining table.
If your child wishes to have a school meal, he/she will need to bring enough money daily to pay the person on the till on receipt of his/her lunch. A set fee is charged to our Infant children for their choice of meal, a cafeteria service is provided for our Junior children, whereby individual items of food are priced. Details of prices and charges are published at regular intervals.
If your child does not wish to have a school meal, a healthy packed lunch may be brought from home.
Snacks & Water
All children have access to drinking water and children in Years 1 to 6 are able to buy toast and milk for a set termly fee or may bring in a healthy snack to have at break time. Our Reception children have access to a healthy snack each morning for a set fee, payable each half-term, as part of our Early Years’ Provision. Please let us know if your child is allergic to any foodstuff. Free Fruit/Veg Scheme Children in Years 1 to 2 receive free fruit at morning break. Reception children receive free fruit in the afternoon. Please let us know if your child is allergic to any fruit or vegetable. Free School Meals
Your child may be entitled to receive a free school meal. The local Council urges those who can make the claim to do so and at Nicol Mere, we also encourage the uptake of the entitlement to make sure that you do not miss out on something which you are due.
Did you know that : – if your child is entitled to free meals and does not wish to have a cooked meal, he/she can order a sandwich meal which can be prepared in our Kitchen? or that :- children who are on our free school meals register are entitled to a reduction in uniform costs, music lesson charges and some trips? – Please contact the School’s Administration office on 01942 720871 for further information.
Sometimes parents are concerned about any ‘stigma’ that may be attached to free school meals children – please speak to us, as we believe the procedure for entitlement is handled delicately and confidentially.
