School Admissions – Intake

If you have a child due to start school in September 2012, please make sure you have applied for a place, even if you already have a child who attends this school, or the Early Years’ Unit.  If you have not yet done so, please contact Mrs Pugh for an application form and pack.

Punctuality

I would like to remind parents that children need to be on the school site at 8.50am ie not too late for going in at 8.55am (when doors will close) or too early when there is no yard supervision.

Pierced Ears

Despite many requests, some children are still not able to take out their own earrings for PE. This is causing a lot of disruption in lessons and some children are not able to do PE. Please ensure that your child can remove their own earrings or that they are not worn in school.

Dinner money and Sandwich Boxes

If your child forgets his/her dinner money or lunchbox, there are procedures in school for them to obtain a dinner.  Please do not drop dinner money or lunchboxes off at the Office to pass on, as we are not allowed to take money over the desk and also, this causes disruption to the child and class during the school day.  Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Holidays in term time

As explained last term, no holidays will be authorised during term time this year. The children already get over 14 weeks holiday and missing school does impact on their learning.

Medicines

Medicines are not allowed in school without prior notice, inhalers are permitted and need to be kept in a safe place.  If your child needs medication, whilst at school, please contact our office staff who will be pleased to advise you of the correct procedures to follow.  Thank you for your co-operation.

Head Lice

Like all schools we occasionally have isolated cases of head lice have been reported to school.  It is important that you check your child’s hair periodically.  For more information on head lice please click on the following link

Bicycles

If your child comes to school on a bicycle, for reasons of safety to others, please ask them to walk their bikes, not ride them on the school grounds – particularly along the footpaths.  Also please ask your child not to ride on the pavements, as this causes distress to pedestrians and as always, ensure they wear a safety helmet.  Thank you!

Reading At Home Pays!

A BBC News Channel has reported that “The Deans Primary School in Swinton, Lancashire, has topped the ‘better results table’ with an average point score per pupil of 32.8”.  The headteacher reported that “the foundation of its success was getting the children to read each day with their parents”.  Interesting!

Your Views.

From time to time the school will ask for you to give your opinion on certain aspects about the school. Look out on the school Newsletter, website or on this board for discussion topics. You can then post in your opinions via the post box next to the notice board. Or alternatively you may want to try sending your opinions on the discussion topics by email.
