| Nicol Mere Newsletters 26th Sepetember 2008
Playground and punctuality Please ensure that pupils do not arrive too early in school as there is no supervision by teachers until 8.50am. They are expected to arrive at 8.50am (Mr Gubbins will often be around most mornings earlier than this, but this cannot be guaranteed and relied upon as child supervision!) All children go into class at 8.55am and registers are taken at 9.00am. If children are not in by 8.55am the doors will be closed. Unfortunately there are still a small number of children who are regularly late and miss the classes going in at 8.55am. If the door has been closed please ensure you take your child to the main office for signing in – they are not to knock on class windows as this disrupts the whole class.
Bikes helmets Please ensure that your child wears a helmet when riding a bike to school – this is not optional! Pupils must not ride them on the grounds and should push them by hand for safety of all.
Workshops (see separate letter from Miss Gander). 19th September 2008 Dear Parents, (see separate letter from Miss Gander) Parent helpers needed
Infant weather protectionOur Reception children are in need of wellingtons and light waterproof clothing for outdoor play. If you have any spare and would like to donate them to school, this would be very much appreciated.
Zig Zags Please don’t park or drop off children on the yellow zig zags on Nicol Road. This is not safe practice and there have been a few near misses recently.
If you would like a price list for the Junior cash cafeteria service, please ask in school. 5th September 2008
Lunchtime and Dinner Money Please note that the cost of a School Dinner for Infant children (Foundation-Year 2) is now £1.85. This remains excellent value for money and we would ask that the children bring in the exact change to avoid delays in the dinner queue. A cash cafeteria service will continue for Junior children (Years 3-6). Punctuality & Attendance I would like to remind parents that children need to be on the school site at 8.50am ie not too late for going in at 8.55am or too early when there is no yard supervision. It was both surprising and disappointing to see so many children late today (around 20 pupils) - this is not good.
We have a school target of 96% or higher attendance for pupils. I realise that children get ill and they shouldn’t come to school but I expect to see them when they are reasonably fit to attend ie sniffs, slight colds or mild sore throats are OK in school. If I have concerns I will contact parents or inform the Education Welfare Officer if necessary. Holidays in term time As explained last term, no holidays will be authorised during term time this year. The children already get over 14 weeks holiday and missing school does impact on their learning.
Videos and photographs of pupils –local trips Please sign the Parent/Guardian consent form (PAGE 5) IN THE PLANNER and return it to your child’s teacher as soon as possible. This way parents will be able to take videos of school sports days, class assemblies and shows and have a memory to cherish in the future. This will also give your permission to allow your child to go out into the local area during the year supervised by staff.
Water Bottles Please ensure that your child only brings in a drinking bottle with a sports top (not screw type), labelled with their name. Children are asked to take the bottle home to refill it each night. They will not be able to refill them at school unless the weather is particularly hot. This will cut down on a lot of disruption caused by water bottles in the past.
Fruit Scheme in the Infants As last year, free fruit will be given to our Infant children. If your child has any allergies to fruit, please let us know.
A big “thank you” to all the children from everyone for their kind ‘end of term’ gifts to the teachers and staff. They were very much appreciated.
9th September 2007 Dear Parents,
We are looking forward to another busy and successful year. The last school year ended with sporting successes and excellent Year 6 SATs results due to the hard work of the pupils and staff – a big THANKYOU to you! There was also a lovely school 30th Thanksgiving service in the last week which was given fantastic praise by a whole range of visiting parents, ex staff and VIPs.
I would like to extend a special welcome to all our new families and members of staff.

Lunchtime and Dinner Money Please note that the cost of a School Dinner for Infant children (Foundation-Year 2) is now £1.80. A cash cafeteria service will continue for our Juniors children (Years 3-6).

Please contact school for details if you would like tickets. 23rd September 2007 Byrchall Festival – Maths Competition Congratulations and well done to our pupils who beat off strong competition from other local schools at the maths competition in the Byrchall High School Festival last weekend. They won first place and brought home a super trophy for Nicol Mere. Thanks and very well done to all the children. Byrchall Festival – Dance Competition The following children (from Mrs Haselden’s class last year) showed an excellent display of dancing as part of a big show in the Byrchall High School Festival. Their behaviour and attitude, apart from their dance skills, are to be praised.
Homework By now you should have received the homework booklets setting out what your child needs to do and when. This is on top of nightly reading and learning times tables.

Free Meals If your child is entitled to Free Meals, don’t miss out. Make sure they take up the entitlement. If they would like a sandwich box, instead of a hot meal, please contact school to arrange this with Mrs Magee.
Car park In the interests of safety, please do not park in the school car park or on the yellow zig zags outside of school between 8.15am and 4.00pm. The marked spaces are for staff use. Thank you for your co-operation.
School paths Please ensure that children use the walking paths at either side of the car park to enter the school grounds and not through the car park. We have had a couple of near misses this week.
